Flameworking (also called "Lampworking") uses a gas-oxygen fueled torch to melt rods and tubing of clear and colored glass. When the glass approaches the molten state it is shaped with a variety of tools, breath, hand movements and gravity. Various techniques are used to create the intricate designs and colorful patterns in beads, marbles, pendants, and other objects. Glassblowing entails gathering glass from a furnace on a blowpipe. Air is blown through the pipe to inflate the molten glass gather, which is decorated, shaped and then transferred to another pipe to allow finishing. The glassblowing process produces objects from functional forms to sculpture. The images below represent millefiori rods, hollow spiral ornaments and a mandrel wrapped millefiori bead.
